The main target of the Janusz Kurtyka Foundation is to disseminate information on Polish history and historiography in Poland and abroad. Another of the Foundation’s aims is to commemorate the scholarship and activities of Professor Janusz Kurtyka.
1. The Competition for the Janusz Kurtyka Award.
The Foundation organizes an annual scholarly Competition for the Janusz Kurtyka Award. The winner of the Award has their book translated and published abroad.
2. The Janusz Kurtyka Library in Warsaw.
The Foundation runs one of the very few private libraries in Poland accessible to the public. Our Library has been created thanks to Professor Janusz Kurtyka’s private collection made available by the donors, the Professor’s Family, to the public at large. Its aims are to spread knowledge and promote the study of Polish history. It comprises rare publications on the Middle Ages and the history of the 20th century.
3. Talks, discussions, and conferences.
The Foundation organizes academic, educational, popularizing and cultural projects and events, e.g. academic conferences, meetings, lectures, discussions, seminars, and workshops. Most of them are held in our Library’s reading room, which makes the Foundation a regular contributor to the academic and cultural life of Warsaw.
4. The Indomitable Soldiers’ Rallies and other projects.
The Foundation also organizes the Indomitable Soldiers’ Rallies, a series of tours to disseminate information on the Indomitable Soldiers and their mass anti-Communist movement against the Soviets. These rallies offer the opportunity to see the places and learn about the people involved in the historical events connected with the history of the Indomitable Soldiers.
